Marion Lorne
Marion Lorne, born Marion Lorne MacDougall (West Pittston, August 12, 1883 – New York, May 9, 1968), was an American actress who specialized in playing eccentric, forgetful, and gentle characters. She began her career on Broadway in 1905, later moving to London for many years with her husband, playwright Walter C. Hackett, appearing in many of his plays. Upon her return to the United States, she worked in film and television. Among her film credits is an appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's *Strangers on a Train* (1951). However, her fame is primarily linked to two television roles: Mrs. Gurney on *Mr. Peepers* and, most notably, the beloved Aunt Clara in the sitcom *Bewitched* (1964-1968). For this final performance, she was posthumously awarded an Emmy Award in 1968 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, a few months after her death.
