Mariya Kuznetsova
Mariya Kuznetsova (1880-1966) was a renowned Russian soprano and dancer, active primarily in the first half of the 20th century. She made her debut in 1904 at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and quickly became one of the leading artists at the Mariinsky Theatre. Her extensive repertoire included roles such as Marguerite in Gounod's *Faust*, Massenet's Thaïs and Manon, and Puccini's Tosca. She was also the first performer of the role of Fevroniya in Rimsky-Korsakov's opera *The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh* (1907). Her international career led her to perform on the most prestigious stages, including the Opéra de Paris, Covent Garden in London, and the Chicago Opera. She also distinguished herself as a dancer, performing with Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, notably in the role of Potiphar's wife in *The Legend of Joseph* (1914). After the Russian Revolution, she emigrated and co-founded the Opéra Russe à Paris, helping to popularize the Russian repertoire in Europe and consolidating her reputation as a versatile and influential artist.
