Mark Gatiss (born 17 October 1966) is a British actor, screenwriter, comedian, and novelist. He came to prominence as a member of the comedy group The League of Gentlemen, with which he won a BAFTA Award. His career is closely associated with his collaborations with Steven Moffat: together they co-created the acclaimed television series *Sherlock*, in which Gatiss also plays the role of Mycroft Holmes, and *Dracula*. He is also a long-standing writer for the series *Doctor Who*, for which he has written numerous episodes, also appearing as an actor. As a performer, he has taken part in successful productions such as *Game of Thrones*, *The Favourite*, and *Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One*. Also highly active in theatre, in 2024 he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in *The Motive and the Cue*, consolidating his status as a versatile and award-winning artist.
