Mark Lewis, born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1958, is a Canadian artist internationally known for his film and photographic installations. His artistic practice explores the conventions and history of cinema, often using long tracking shots and meticulous camera movements to investigate the perception of space and time. His subjects range from urban and natural landscapes to modernist architecture, transforming everyday scenes into reflections on painting, photography, and film itself. His career reached a major milestone in 2009 when he represented Canada at the 53rd Venice Biennale. His works have been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Tate Modern in London. Among his numerous awards, he received the Gershon Iskowitz Prize in 2016, in recognition of his significant contribution to contemporary art.
