Markku Peltola
Markku Peltola (1956-2007) was a Finnish actor, renowned primarily for his prolific collaboration with director Aki Kaurismäki.
Peltola often portrayed taciturn, melancholic, and dignified characters, frequently outcasts or working-class figures, who expressed profound humanism through glances and gestures rather than words.
His most iconic role was that of the amnesiac protagonist in the Academy Award-nominated film *The Man Without a Past* (Mies vailla menneisyyttä, 2002), part of the "Finland Trilogy." He also appeared in other Kaurismäki films such as *Drifting Clouds* (Kauas pilvet karkaavat, 1996) and *Lights in the Dusk* (Laitakaupungin valot, 2006).
His on-screen presence was a distinctive and unforgettable element of the Finnish director's cinema.
