Martín Serrano
Manuel Martín Serrano was a Spanish sociologist and communication theorist, considered one of the founding fathers of communication studies in the Spanish-speaking world. He held the chair of Communication Theory at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he founded the eponymous department, training entire generations of scholars. His most influential work is *La producción social de comunicación* (1986), in which he developed the Social Theory of Communication, also known as the Theory of Mediations. In this seminal work, he analyzes how media institutions produce social reality and how it is perceived by the public. Another of his notable works is *Teoría de la Comunicación. Epistemología y análisis de la referencia*. For his pioneering contribution to the discipline, he received numerous awards, including the prestigious "Pascual Madoz" National Research Prize in Law and Economic and Social Sciences in 2007, crowning a career dedicated to the critical analysis of communication processes.
