
Mary Philips
Mary Philips was an American actress, known primarily for her prolific stage career on Broadway, active from the 1920s to the 1960s. She appeared in highly successful productions, including the original comedy *The Front Page* (1928) and the musical *Of Thee I Sing* (1931), a work that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Another of her iconic roles was Cora Papadakis in the original stage production of *The Postman Always Rings Twice* (1936). Although the stage was her primary domain, Philips also had a solid film career as a character actress, playing supporting roles in notable films such as *A Farewell to Arms* (1932) and the film noir *Leave Her to Heaven* (1945). Praised for her versatility and strong stage presence, she is considered one of the most consistent and respected performers of the American stage of her time.
