
Max Wright
George Edward Maxwell "Max" Wright (Detroit, August 2, 1943 – Hermosa Beach, June 26, 2019) was an American actor, best known to international audiences for his role as Willie Tanner, the patient head of the family in the popular 1980s sitcom *ALF*. His career, however, was firmly rooted in theatre; he was an acclaimed Broadway actor, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play in 1998 for his performance in *Ivanov*. On television, he appeared in numerous series, including *Buffalo Bill*, *Misfits of Science*, and in the recurring role of the manager of Central Perk in *Friends*. His filmography includes roles in notable films such as Bob Fosse's *All That Jazz*, Warren Beatty's *Reds*, and Michael Hoffman's *A Midsummer Night's Dream*, demonstrating considerable versatility in both comedic and dramatic roles.
