Maxon Crumb, born in 1945, is an American artist and cartoonist, and the brother of the more famous Robert Crumb. His career is distinguished by an intensely personal, visionary, and often raw artistic style, far from the conventions of underground comics. His works, which include drawings, paintings, and comics, explore recurring themes such as spirituality, asceticism, sexuality, and psychological torment with an uncompromising approach. Among his best-known works is the volume *Maxon's Poe*, in which he illustrates the stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Although his body of work is less extensive than his brother's, Maxon Crumb has gained a significant cult following, amplified by his moving and revealing participation in Terry Zwigoff's 1994 documentary *Crumb*, which exposed his complex personality and his dedication to an ascetic and artistic life to the general public.
