Melvin Belli

Melvin M. Belli (1907-1996) was a renowned American attorney, nicknamed "The King of Torts" for his success in personal injury lawsuits. His career was revolutionary for introducing and popularizing "demonstrative evidence," using models, photographs, and films in court to illustrate arguments to the jury in a more vivid and comprehensible manner. Among his most famous cases were the defense of Jack Ruby, the man who murdered Lee Harvey Oswald, and the legal representation of numerous celebrities, including the Rolling Stones. In addition to his legal practice, Belli was a prolific author; his most significant work is the multi-volume treatise "Modern Trials," which influenced generations of lawyers on modern trial techniques. His often-theatrical style and his ability to win million-dollar verdicts for his clients left an indelible mark on American legal practice, particularly in the field of personal injury.
