Michele Riccardini

Michele Riccardini (Perugia, 2 October 1910 – Sesto San Giovanni, 28 July 1978) was an Italian actor and director, one of the most prolific and recognizable character actors in national cinema. He began his career in theatre, then moved to radio and finally to the big screen after World War II. His filmography includes over one hundred titles, in which he left an indelible mark with his ability to portray memorable supporting characters, who were often neurotic or clumsy. His fame is primarily linked to his participation in masterpieces of the Commedia all'italiana genre: he is remembered for his role as the stuttering photographer in Mario Monicelli's *I soliti ignoti* (1958), and for his performances in films such as Dino Risi's *Il sorpasso* (1962) and *L'armata Brancaleone* (1966), also by Monicelli. Although he did not receive major awards, his recognition lies in having been a fundamental and constant presence in Italian cinema for over thirty years, collaborating with the most important directors and actors of his era and also working actively in television until his death.
