Michele Sakara
Michele Sàkara (Pola, 1920 – Trieste, 1999) was an Italian composer, organist, and choir director, a leading figure in twentieth-century sacred music. Trained at the Trieste Conservatory, he dedicated his entire career to composition and teaching, holding the prestigious position of Chapel Master at the Cathedral of San Giusto in Trieste for over forty years. His vast musical output, which includes hundreds of works, is primarily focused on the liturgical and sacred repertoire, including masses, motets, oratorios, and cantatas, as well as compositions for organ and chamber music. His style, while rooted in the post-Cecilian tradition, is distinguished by a refined harmonic sensibility and solid contrapuntal writing. Alongside his compositional activities, he was an influential professor of composition and organ at the "Giuseppe Tartini" Conservatory in Trieste. For his significant contribution to musical culture, he received numerous national and international awards and accolades.
