Miguel Picazo
Miguel Picazo de Dios (Villanueva de la Reina, 1927 – Madrid, 2016) was a Spanish director, screenwriter, and actor, a key figure in the so-called New Spanish Cinema. His debut film, *La tía Tula* (1964), an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Miguel de Unamuno, is considered his masterpiece. For this work, a sharp analysis of the repression and provincial morality of the era, he won the Silver Shell for Best Director at the San Sebastián Film Festival. His film career, marked by difficulties with Francoist censorship, continued intermittently with titles such as *Oscuros sueños de agosto* (1967) and *Extramuros* (1985). In parallel, he worked extensively in television and as an actor, appearing in iconic films such as *El espíritu de la colmena* (1973) by Víctor Erice. In 1997, he received the Honorary Goya Award (Goya de Honor) in recognition of his entire artistic career.
