Mihály Kormos
Mihály Kormos (1917-1977) was a Hungarian poet, writer, translator, and editor. A prominent figure of the literary generation associated with the magazine "Újhold," he debuted with poetry collections characterized by intense lyricism and profound sensitivity. Although his work for adults is significant, his fame rests primarily on his children's literature, particularly the series of stories featuring the little bear Vackor. These works, beloved by generations of Hungarian children, are distinguished by their gentle humor, imagination, and an accessible yet poetic language. Alongside his work as a writer, Kormos worked extensively as a literary translator and as an editor for several publishing houses. For his contribution to national literature, he received prestigious awards, including the Attila József Prize twice and the Kossuth Prize, the highest cultural honor in Hungary.
