Mildred Natwick was an American actress, known for her long and prolific career in theater, film, and television. She began her career on Broadway, where she was distinguished for her comedic and dramatic talent. Among her stage successes was the role of Ethel Banks in the original production of "Barefoot in the Park," for which she received a Tony Award nomination. On the big screen, she became an acclaimed character actress, frequently collaborating with directors such as John Ford, for whom she played the widow Sarah Tillane in "The Quiet Man" (1952), and Alfred Hitchcock in "The Trouble with Harry" (1955). Her most celebrated performance remains her role in the 1967 film adaptation of "Barefoot in the Park," which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her television career was equally significant, culminating in a Primetime Emmy Award win for the series "The Snoop Sisters." One of her last memorable roles was that of Madame de Rosemonde in "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988).
