Milly

Milly, the stage name of Carla Mignone (Alessandria, 6 February 1905 – Nepi, 22 September 1980), was an Italian singer and actress, a multifaceted figure and a 20th-century style icon. Her career, which began in the 1920s as a sophisticated performer of songs ranging from the ironic to the sentimental, soon established her as a star of variety theatre. After a period of international success that also brought her to the United States, from the 1950s she focused mainly on auteur theatre. Her name is inextricably linked to her landmark performance as Jenny Diver in Bertolt Brecht's *The Threepenny Opera*, directed by Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. Her versatility also led her to work in cinema, where she was directed by masters such as Federico Fellini in *Amarcord* and Bernardo Bertolucci in *The Conformist*. Active in television and concerts until her final years, she is recognized as one of the most charismatic and influential artists of her generation, capable of crossing genres and decades with unchanging elegance.
