Mink Stole

Mink Stole, the pseudonym of Nancy Paine Stoll (born 1947), is an American actress, singer, and artist, an iconic figure of underground cinema known above all for her inseparable collaboration with director John Waters. She is one of the founding members of the Baltimore "Dreamlanders" troupe, a nearly unique case of artistic loyalty, having appeared in all of Waters' feature films, from Mondo Trasho (1969) to A Dirty Shame (2004). Although she is a constant presence, her most celebrated roles remain those in the director's early "trash" masterpieces, where she embodied neurotic, villainous, or grotesque characters. She is unforgettable as Connie Marble, Divine's rival in the contest for the "filthiest person" title in Pink Flamingos (1972), and as Taffy Davenport in Female Trouble (1974). Her versatility allowed her to navigate Waters' entire career, from early scandals to more mainstream roles like Tammy in Hairspray (1988), becoming an icon of queer and independent cinema. Concurrently, she has cultivated a career in theater and music.
