Miyuki Kuwano, born in 1942, is a Japanese actress who became one of the leading stars for the Shochiku film studio in the late 1950s and early 1960s. She is best known for her collaborations with director Yasujirō Ozu in films such as *Floating Weeds* (1959), *Late Autumn* (1960), and *An Autumn Afternoon* (1962), where she often played the role of the modern, independent daughter, a key figure in the family dynamics typical of the master's cinema. Concurrently, Kuwano was a prominent figure of the Japanese New Wave, working with Nagisa Ōshima in iconic and transgressive works such as *Cruel Story of Youth* (1960) and *The Sun's Burial* (1960). For her performance in the former film, she won the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 1960, she also received the Elan d'or Award for Newcomer of the Year. She retired from acting in the mid-1960s, at the height of her popularity.
