Miyuki Matsuda

Miyuki Matsuda (née Kumagai, born in Tokyo on October 6, 1961) is a Japanese actress, photographer, and producer. She began her acting career in the late 1970s, quickly achieving international recognition with Nagisa Ōshima's film *Empire of Passion* (1978), a role for which she received a Best Actress nomination at the Cannes Film Festival. Her versatile career includes appearances in cult films such as Takashi Miike's *Audition* (1999) and critically acclaimed works like *Tokyo Tower: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad* (2007). For the latter film, she won the award for Best Supporting Actress at the Japan Academy Film Prize, one of the highest honors in Japanese cinema. In addition to her work as an actress, she is an esteemed photographer with several publications and a producer. She is also active in preserving and promoting the artistic legacy of her late husband, actor Yusaku Matsuda.
