
Moses Gunn
Moses Gunn was an American actor, known for his versatility and his commanding presence in theater, film, and television. A co-founder of the Negro Ensemble Company in 1967, he distinguished himself in theater with Shakespearean roles such as Othello, winning an Obie Award for his acclaimed off-Broadway performances. His film career includes memorable roles such as the boss Bumpy Jonas in *Shaft* (1971), Booker T. Washington in *Ragtime* (1981), Sergeant Webster in *Heartbreak Ridge* (1986), and the wise Cairon in *The NeverEnding Story* (1984). On television, he is remembered for his role in the miniseries *Roots* (1977), which earned him an Emmy Award nomination, and for his roles in series such as *Little House on the Prairie* and *Good Times*. Considered one of the most respected African American actors of his generation, he also received several NAACP Image Awards, consolidating his legacy as a performer of great depth and influence.
