Murray Alper

Murray Alper (New York, January 11, 1904 – Los Angeles, November 16, 1984) was a prolific American character actor, active primarily from the 1930s to the 1960s. Specializing in supporting roles, he often portrayed archetypal working-class figures such as taxi drivers, soldiers, sailors, and petty criminals, frequently characterized by a pronounced New York accent. Among his most memorable appearances are his roles in *The Maltese Falcon* (1941), as the taxi driver who follows Humphrey Bogart's character, and in Alfred Hitchcock's *Saboteur* (1942), where he plays a truck driver. His extensive filmography includes over 200 credits in film and television; on the small screen, he appeared in popular series such as *The Untouchables*, *Perry Mason*, and *The Twilight Zone*. Although he did not receive any major awards, his contribution to classic cinema lies in being a familiar and reliable face, capable of making every small part authentic and vivid.
