Musidora
Musidora, pseudonym of Jeanne Roques (Paris, 1889 – Paris, 1957), was a French actress, director, and screenwriter, considered one of cinema's first icons. She achieved international fame thanks to director Louis Feuillade, who cast her as the femme fatale Irma Vep in the serial *Les Vampires* (1915-1916). With her magnetic image and tight-fitting black catsuit, Musidora became the first major archetype of the cinematic *vamp*, fascinating audiences and inspiring the Surrealist movement. Her success was consolidated by her subsequent collaboration with Feuillade in *Judex* (1916). Beginning in the 1920s, she also turned to directing, both directing and starring in films such as *Sol y sombra* (1922) and *La tierra de los toros* (1924), often set in Spain. With the advent of sound, her acting career declined, but she continued to work in the film industry, focusing on writing and collaborating with the Cinémathèque Française until her death. She remains a fundamental symbol of silent cinema.
