Nanette Fabray

Nanette Fabray (1920-2018) was an American actress, singer, and dancer whose career spanned vaudeville, theater, film, and television. She rose to prominence on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 1949 for her performance in "Love Life". Her film career includes the celebrated musical "The Band Wagon" (1953), alongside Fred Astaire. However, she achieved her greatest popularity on television, especially for her work on the comedy series "Caesar's Hour" in the 1950s, a role that earned her three Primetime Emmy Awards. Later, she was widely known for her role as Ann Romano's mother on the sitcom "One Day at a Time". Fabray, who had a hearing impairment, was also a prominent advocate for the rights of deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
