
Nicholas Clay
Nicholas Anthony Clay (London, 18 September 1946 – London, 25 May 2000) was a British actor. Trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), he began his career primarily in theatre, working with prominent companies such as the Old Vic. He achieved international fame in the early 1980s through a series of iconic film roles. He is best remembered for portraying Sir Lancelot in John Boorman's *Excalibur* (1981), the lover Oliver Mellors in *Lady Chatterley's Lover* (1981), and Patrick Redfern in the Agatha Christie adaptation *Evil Under the Sun* (1982). His versatile career also included numerous television productions in both Great Britain and the United States, as well as voice work. Despite not winning major film awards, Clay was an actor consistently appreciated for his solid classical training and intense stage presence, remaining active on stage and the small screen until his premature death.
