
Nicol Williamson
Nicol Williamson (1936–2011) was a Scottish actor, celebrated for his powerful stage presence and intense performances in both theatre and film. His stage career reached its peak with acclaimed roles such as Bill Maitland in John Osborne's *Inadmissible Evidence* and an iconic Hamlet, performances that earned him two Tony Award nominations. On the big screen, he is best remembered for the role of the wizard Merlin in John Boorman's film *Excalibur* (1981), a performance that captured his characteristic eccentricity and authority. His filmography also includes memorable parts as Little John in *Robin and Marian* (1976) and Sherlock Holmes in *The Seven-Per-Cent Solution* (1976).
