
Nicole Berger
Nicole Berger (born Nicole Gouspeyre; Paris, 12 June 1934 – Rouen, 13 April 1967) was a French actress. Her film career took off in 1954 with the role of Vinca in Claude Autant-Lara's film *Le Blé en herbe*, which brought her immediate fame. She later became a significant face of the French New Wave, primarily for her performance as the waitress Thérèse Saroyan in François Truffaut's acclaimed film *Shoot the Piano Player* (1960). Her filmography includes other notable titles such as Jean-Daniel Pollet's *La Ligne de mire* (1960) and Jacques Rivette's controversial *La religieuse* (1966), in which she starred alongside Anna Karina. Also active in theater, she was a member of Jean-Louis Barrault's renowned company. Her promising career was prematurely cut short at the age of 32 by a fatal car accident, cementing her status as an icon of French cinema of the 1950s and 1960s.
