Niu Xingli
Niu Xingli is a Chinese geophysicist and seismologist, internationally renowned for her fundamental contributions to deep Earth seismic imaging. She currently holds the Roy M. Huffington Chair in Geophysics at Southern Methodist University. Her career focuses on the development and application of advanced seismic tomography techniques to create high-resolution maps of the planet's internal structure, with a particular focus on the core-mantle boundary. Her work has provided crucial insights into mantle convection, tectonic processes, and Earth's core dynamics, enhancing the understanding of geological phenomena. For the impact of her research, she has received numerous awards and honors: in 2015, she was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), which in 2019 awarded her the prestigious Inge Lehmann Medal. In 2023, she was elected a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest scientific honors.
