Norman Bird

Norman Bird (1924-2005) was a prolific and respected British character actor, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Known for his ability to portray anxious, pedantic, or slightly eccentric characters, often in roles as officials or clerks, he built a career that spanned over fifty years. His filmography includes appearances in films such as *The League of Gentlemen* (1960), *The Hill* (1965), and *A Bridge Too Far* (1977). However, he is perhaps best remembered for his extensive television work, with iconic roles such as Mr. Peters in the children's series *Worzel Gummidge* and memorable appearances in cult programmes such as *Fawlty Towers*, *Upstairs, Downstairs*, and *The Onedin Line*. Although he never won any major awards, Bird was widely recognised as one of the most familiar and reliable faces of 20th-century British film and television.
