
Norman Lloyd
Norman Lloyd (born Norman Perlmutter; Jersey City, November 8, 1914 – Los Angeles, May 11, 2021) was an American actor, producer, and director whose career spanned nearly a century, making him one of Hollywood's most long-lived figures. He began his career in theater, becoming a founding member of Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre. His film debut was in Alfred Hitchcock's *Saboteur* (1942), in the memorable role of the spy who falls from the Statue of Liberty. His fruitful collaboration with Hitchcock continued with *Spellbound* (1945) and as an associate producer and director for the television series *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*. On television, he is known for playing Dr. Daniel Auschlander in the medical drama series *St. Elsewhere*. His most celebrated later roles include the strict headmaster Mr. Nolan in *Dead Poets Society* (1989) and his final appearance, at the age of 100, in *Trainwreck* (2015). In 2014, he received a special award at the Venice Film Festival for his extraordinary career.
