Ossie Davis (1917-2005) was an influential African-American actor, director, and activist. His long and illustrious film career was characterized by roles as authoritative, wise, and often figures embodying a strong moral compass.

He became particularly known for his frequent collaboration with director Spike Lee, appearing in iconic films such as *Do the Right Thing* (1989), *Jungle Fever* (1991), and *Malcolm X* (1992), where he often portrayed father figures or spiritual guides.

Outside of Lee's works, Davis delivered memorable performances in comedies such as *Grumpy Old Men* (1993) and, later, in more unusual roles like in *Bubba Ho-Tep* (2002). His acting style, marked by a commanding presence and a warm voice, made him a respected and beloved figure in Hollywood.
