Park Young-seo

Park Young-seo (1963–2011) was a South Korean mountaineer, one of the most celebrated and decorated of his generation. He is known for being one of the few people in the world to have completed the Adventure Grand Slam, which consists of climbing the Seven Summits (the highest peaks on each continent) and reaching the North and South Poles. His mountaineering career is marked by the swift ascent of all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, a feat he completed in just eight years between 1993 and 2001, making him one of the fastest people to achieve this milestone. In addition to these achievements, Park distinguished himself by opening new routes, such as the one on the southwest face of Everest. For his exceptional contributions to mountaineering, he received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Himalayan Golden Crown. His life ended tragically in October 2011, when he went missing along with fellow climbers Kang Ki-seok and Shin Dong-min while attempting to open a new route on the south face of Annapurna.
