Paul Gleason
Paul Gleason (Jersey City, May 4, 1939 – Burbank, May 27, 2006) was an American actor, primarily known for his roles as authoritarian and often irascible characters. His career was defined by memorable performances that made him an iconic face of 1980s cinema. Among his most famous roles are the stern principal Richard Vernon in *The Breakfast Club* (1985), the cynical agent Clarence Beeks in *Trading Places* (1983), and the incompetent Deputy Police Chief Dwayne T. Robinson in *Die Hard* (1988). Before achieving film stardom, Gleason had a long-running role in the soap opera *All My Children* as Dr. David Thornton. His filmography also includes numerous appearances in successful films and TV series, such as *Seinfeld* and *Friends*, often ironically playing on his own gruff persona. Although he did not win major individual awards, his contribution as a character actor is widely recognized, solidifying his reputation as one of the most effective and recognizable supporting actors of his generation.
