Paul Winfield (1939-2004) was an American actor known for his versatility and his deep voice. His career took off with the film *Sounder* (1972), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his portrayal of sharecropper Nathan Lee Morgan. His most iconic film roles include Captain Terrell in *Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan* (1982) and Lieutenant Ed Traxler in *The Terminator* (1984). On television, he distinguished himself with his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in the miniseries *King* (1978), a role that earned him an Emmy nomination, and he also appeared in successful productions such as *Roots: The Next Generations*. His work on the small screen was crowned in 1995 with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Judge Harold Nance in *Picket Fences*. His career, which spanned more than four decades, encompassed film, theater, and television, solidifying his status as a powerful and respected performer.
