Paula Romo
María Paula Romo Dávila is an Ecuadorian lawyer and politician, known for her influential career in public service. She rose to prominence as a member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 2008 Constitution and as a co-founder of the political movement Ruptura 25, later being elected as a member of the National Assembly. The culmination of her career was her appointment as Minister of Government during the presidency of Lenín Moreno. In this role, her work focused on internal security, addressing critical events such as the violent protests of October 2019. However, her handling of the demonstrations led to strong criticism and impeachment proceedings. In November 2020, the National Assembly removed her from office, a censure of her conduct, with accusations related to the use of expired riot-control materials. She subsequently co-founded the Construye movement and has faced several judicial investigations concerning her ministerial actions.
