She is primarily remembered for her iconic role as Lisette, the lively chambermaid, in Jean Renoir's masterpiece *The Rules of the Game* (1939), a performance that defined her image in classic cinema. She collaborated with other great directors such as Marcel Carné in *Hôtel du Nord* (1938) and Max Ophüls in *Le Plaisir* (1952).
