Peter Carver
Peter Carver (1949–2021) was an influential Canadian editor, writer, and anthologist, a central figure in the development of young adult literature in his country. Known for his keen editorial instincts, he held key roles at publishing houses such as Red Deer Press and Orca Book Publishers, mentoring an entire generation of authors and actively promoting new voices. His literary output includes novels such as *Smoke and Mirrors*, but he is particularly celebrated for editing numerous successful short story anthologies, including the collections *First-Time* and *Closer to Home*, which brought together leading talents in Canadian fiction for young adults. For his outstanding and lasting contribution to Canadian literature and culture, Carver was honoured with prestigious awards, including his appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2020 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
