Peter Vaughan, born Peter Ewart Ohm (4 April 1923 – 6 December 2016), was a British actor whose career spanned over 75 years, specializing in character roles and often portraying authority figures. Among his most celebrated performances are the influential inmate Harry "Grouty" Grout in the British sitcom *Porridge*, the bureaucrat Mr. Helpmann in Terry Gilliam's film *Brazil*, and the protagonist's father in *The Remains of the Day*. For his performance in *A Month in the Country* (1987), he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In his later years, he gained wide international fame for his role as Maester Aemon in the HBO fantasy series *Game of Thrones*, one of his last and most acclaimed performances, which introduced him to a new generation of viewers worldwide.
