
Philippe Volter
Philippe Volter (Uccle, 23 March 1959 – Paris, 13 April 2005) was a Belgian actor. The son of theatre director Claude Volter, he trained at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, making a successful stage debut. His film career took off internationally with the lead role in Gérard Corbiau's *The Music Teacher* (1988), a film that received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. His most notable collaboration was with Polish director Krzysztof Kieślowski, who directed him in two major works: *The Double Life of Véronique* (1991) and *Three Colours: Blue* (1993). His other significant performances include *Cyrano de Bergerac* (1990) and *Macbeth* (1987), for which he won the Joseph Plateau Award for Best Belgian Actor. His career, marked by intense and dramatically complex roles, was cut short prematurely at the age of 46.
