Piero Mazzinghi
Piero Mazzinghi, born in Florence in 1938, was an influential Italian graphic designer, illustrator, and art director. Active since the 1960s, he began his career in the advertising industry, collaborating with major agencies and founding Gruppo 13 in Florence. His name is inextricably linked to the publishing house Salani, where he served as art director for over thirty years. For Salani, he oversaw the visual identity and designed the covers for celebrated series such as "Gl'Istrici," defining a recognizable aesthetic that marked children's publishing in Italy. His style, characterized by an elegant irony, visual synthesis, and a clean line, was also applied to the illustration of books and posters. His long and prolific career earned him numerous awards, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro ADI for Lifetime Achievement, which he received in 2018 for his fundamental contribution to Italian design.
