Pierre Dux
Pierre Dux, born Pierre Alexandre Martin (Paris, October 21, 1908 – Paris, December 1, 1990), was a French actor and director, and a leading figure in 20th-century theatre. His career is inextricably linked to the Comédie-Française, which he joined in 1929, became a *sociétaire* in 1938, and served as its general administrator during two separate periods (1944–1945 and 1970–1979). A versatile performer and acclaimed director, he excelled in the classical repertoire, particularly in the works of Molière. Alongside his stage work, he built a solid film career, appearing in notable films such as *Z* (1969) by Costa-Gavras, *Three Men to Kill* (1980), and *Life Is a Bed of Roses* (1983) by Alain Resnais. His talent was recognized with major awards: in 1991, he posthumously won the César Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in *The Reader* (*La Lectrice*). He was also a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, confirming his status as a monument of French culture.
