Ralph Ince
Ralph Ince (born Ralph Waldo Ince; Boston, January 16, 1887 – London, April 10, 1937) was an American actor, director, and screenwriter, and a prominent figure of the silent film era. He began his career at Vitagraph Studios, where he quickly became one of its leading directors and a successful character actor. Known for his roles as villains or strong-willed characters, he directed numerous films, often melodramas and action pictures, frequently collaborating with his wife, actress Lucille Lee Stewart. With the advent of sound, he continued to work in both the United States and the United Kingdom, where he moved in the 1930s. His most significant works as a director include the serial *The Goddess* (1915), co-directed with J. Stuart Blackton, and films such as *Chicago After Midnight* (1928). Although he did not receive any major formal awards, his recognition lies in his status as a pioneer and a prolific filmmaker for Vitagraph. His career was tragically cut short by a traffic accident in London.
