Randall Adams

Randall Dale Adams (1948-2010) was an American citizen known for being wrongfully sentenced to death in 1977 for the murder of a Dallas police officer. His case is the subject of the acclaimed 1988 documentary film *The Thin Blue Line* by Errol Morris. Through an innovative technique of interviews and reenactments, Morris's work brought to light crucial evidence of his innocence, including contradictory and recanted testimonies, which led to the reopening of the legal case. Thanks to the evidence that emerged from the film, Adams's conviction was overturned in 1989, and he was released after serving more than twelve years in prison. Adams's exoneration is an emblematic case in American judicial history that has spurred debate on wrongful convictions. After his release, although he did not pursue a formal public career, he became a symbol and an activist against the death penalty and miscarriages of justice.
