Rashid Aitouganov, born in 1970, is a Russian calligrapher of Tatar ethnicity, regarded as a prominent figure in the field of contemporary Islamic art. His career is dedicated to the mastery of Arabic calligraphy and the revitalization of the traditional Tatar art of the *shama'il*, a calligraphic composition with apotropaic value. In 1999, he took a pioneering step by founding the first school of Arabic calligraphy in modern Russia in Kazan, decisively contributing to the training of a new generation of artists. His works, which elegantly blend the classical canons of Arabic script with ornamental and chromatic motifs typical of Tatar culture, have been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions. Aitouganov has received significant recognition for his work, including several awards won at the prestigious international calligraphy competition organized by the IRCICA in Istanbul. His works are held in major museum and private collections in Russia and abroad, consolidating his reputation as an innovative master.
