Raymond Bussières

Raymond Bussières, born Raymond Bussières-Chalat (Ivry-la-Bataille, November 3, 1907 – Paris, April 29, 1982), was a French actor, screenwriter, and director. An extremely popular figure in post-war French cinema, he built his career playing working-class characters: laborers, artisans, or petty criminals, often characterized by a good-natured humor and a melancholic air. His filmography, which includes over 150 titles, features works by major directors such as Marcel Carné, René Clair, and Jacques Becker. His most celebrated performances include those in Henri-Georges Clouzot's *The Murderer Lives at Number 21* (1942), Becker's *Casque d'Or* (1952), and Clair's *Porte des Lilas* (1957). Married to the actress Annette Poivre, with whom he often appeared on screen, he also ventured into directing, co-directing several films. Although he did not receive major awards, his primary recognition was the enduring affection of the public, which established him as one of the most beloved and recognizable supporting figures of his generation.
