
Reginald Owen
Reginald Owen (1887–1972) was a British actor, known for his long and prolific career as a character actor in Hollywood cinema. After making his debut on the London stage, he moved to the United States, where he worked both on Broadway and in film. His most famous role is probably that of Ebenezer Scrooge in the 1938 version of *A Christmas Carol*. He was one of the few actors to have portrayed both Doctor Watson (*A Study in Scarlet*, 1933) and Sherlock Holmes (*Sherlock Holmes*, 1932). His extensive filmography includes titles such as *Queen Christina* (1933), *Anna Karenina* (1935), and *National Velvet* (1944). In his later years, he is remembered for the role of Admiral Boom in the Disney classic *Mary Poppins* (1964). Although he did not receive major awards, Owen was a constant and reliable presence, appreciated for his versatility in portraying gentlemen, authoritative figures, and comic characters, solidifying his reputation as one of the most recognizable faces of Hollywood's Golden Age.
