Reiko Dan (1935–2003), a stage name for Reiko Hamada (née Tanaka), was a Japanese actress primarily active from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Her career is inextricably linked to the Toho film studio, for which she became one of its most well-known faces. After debuting in 1957, her popularity grew rapidly, and she received the Elan d'or Award for "Newcomer of the Year" in 1959. She demonstrated remarkable versatility, playing roles in a wide variety of genres. She is celebrated for her collaborations with director Akira Kurosawa in masterpieces such as *Sanjuro* (1962) and *Red Beard* (1965). Simultaneously, she became an icon of science fiction and *kaiju* cinema, appearing in cult films such as *The Last War* (1961), *Mothra vs. Godzilla* (1964), and *Son of Godzilla* (1967). She retired from acting in the mid-1970s, leaving a significant mark on post-war Japanese cinema.
