Richard LeParmentier

Richard LeParmentier (Pittsburgh, 1946 – Austin, 2013) was an American actor and screenwriter. After moving to the United Kingdom in 1974, he developed much of his career in Europe. He is remembered primarily for his role as Admiral Motti in *Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope* (1977), protagonist of the celebrated scene in which he is choked from a distance by Darth Vader for his "lack of faith." His film career includes appearances in other major productions such as *Superman II* (1980), the James Bond film *Octopussy* (1983), and *Who Framed Roger Rabbit* (1988), in which he played Lieutenant Santino. In addition to acting, he worked as a screenwriter for television, particularly for the British series *The Bill*, a contribution that earned him recognition from the London Film Critics' Circle. In his later years, he became a much-loved figure at science fiction conventions, where he maintained his connection with the public thanks to his iconic character.
