Richard McLaren is a Canadian legal scholar and professor of law at Western University, internationally known for his role as an arbitrator and investigator in the field of sports law. A long-standing member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, he is primarily known for the "McLaren Report," an investigation he led that was commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Published in 2016, the report uncovered an institutionalized doping system in Russia, with particular reference to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, having a profound impact on global sports policies. His career also includes leading major investigations into corruption within the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and participating in independent commissions on cycling reform. For his significant contribution to justice and integrity in sport, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of his country's highest civilian honors.
