Richard Portnow, born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1947, is a prolific American character actor. His film career is marked by memorable supporting roles in major films, including *Good Morning, Vietnam* (1987), the Coen brothers' *Barton Fink* (1991), *Seven* (1995), and *Private Parts* (1997). On the small screen, he is known to the general public primarily for his portrayal of attorney Harold "Mel" Melvoin in the acclaimed television series *The Sopranos*, a role he held for several seasons.
