Richard William Duncan Pound, a Canadian lawyer and sports administrator, is one of the most influential figures in the history of the modern Olympic movement. A former swimmer, he represented Canada at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. A member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1978, he served as its vice-president from 1987 to 1991 and from 1996 to 2000. He is primarily known for his role as the founding president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which he led from 1999 to 2007, becoming a global authority in the fight against doping. He chaired the WADA independent commission that uncovered the state-sponsored doping system in Russia. The author of several books on sports governance, he has received Canada's highest honors, including Companion of the Order of Canada, for his international impact on sports and ethics.
